Maca is a plant native to the Andes mountain range in Peru and Bolivia. It thrives in areas with more than 4,000 meters above sea level, where the conditions for growing plants are quite extreme. Plants that thrive in difficult and unfavorable conditions are often very rich in nutrients and active ingredients. Maca has been prized by Peruvian natives for thousands of years for its beneficial effects on vitality. Due to its beneficial properties on physical performance, it is also called Peruvian ginseng. It is consumed by drying the underground part of the root in the sun and grinding it into powder. The ancient Incas consumed maca to increase stamina before going into battle.
